Big Hurt Beer hits stores Saturday

In a tasty development, Frank Thomas' beer will debut Oct. 15.

Take that, iPhone 4S. There's a better product hitting stores this weekend, and I can only hope it's more delicous.

Big Hurt Beer isn't messing around. Each can is 24 ounces, and it's 7 percent ABV. A couple cans of BHB and you'll forget how much Alex Rios is being paid!

Check for a review of the brew next week -- I mean, this blog is called Beerleaguer, after all. Hopefully the beer is as good as Frank's career.

Good call Buford. My questions are...why now and why beer? Who's brainchild is this? Do they expect people to buy more after the first case?

After the novelty wears off, it should come down to taste and price as usual although its 24 oz./ 7% ABV experience seems to target those with an urgency to get plastered.

IIRC, Frank hasn't had much success with business ventures and this one will likely strike out also.

But maybe he sees The Cell as a venue for his brew with the warning "Every designated hitter needs a designated driver. Burp!"

I did tweet this. The beer should come in 35 packs.

From what I read its brewed by a brewery in Wisc, whose owners are known for using cost effective (cheap) methods. Not sure thats a good omen.

You're right, dadawg_77. It's being brewed by Minhas, which bought the old Huber brewery (known locally for making Berghoff beer) a few years ago. Their flagship beer--if you can call it that--is Lazy Mutt Farmhouse Ale, which scores a robust D+ over at BeerAdvocate. Described as a "crisp, full-flavored" 7% lager, I suppose it could be a Maibock, but in a 24 oz. can I would expect something along the lines of Colt 45. Chalk this one up as one of those beers you buy so you can put the can on a shelf next to your Big Hurt bobblehad; I'd be shocked if it's still around a year from now.
