Let's break this down. Briggs starts okay, but as soon as he gets into his leg kick he runs into trouble. He wasn't able to get a high leg kick, which messed with his balance. To be fair, though, Briggs was wearing jeans, and those aren't exactly pants that are conducive to pitching. That being said, Briggs' did a good job driving with his back leg to generate power. But he flew open just before the release and his stride was short—again, thanks to the jeans, probably—which led to his pitch ending up in the dirt for Mark Buehrle to scoop out. Briggs has a live arm, though, and with some refinement maybe could have some fun in case the lockout keeps on rolling into September or October. Hey, if Sergio Santos can do it, why not Briggs?
Still, Briggs was better than Fausto Carmona Thursday night.
