Utley should be back by the weekend, finally giving the Phillies their entire projected starting lineup. It will be interesting to see where he bats. The assumption here is that Ben Revere will continue to lead off, and Utley will either bat second or third.
Utley batting second would prevent the Phils from having three straight lefties 3-4-5 in Utley, Ryan Howard and Domonic Brown. It would likely keep Jimmy Rollins in the three-hole, move Michael Young down to sixth in the order and Delmon Young to seventh.
Since Utley went down, Phillies second basemen have combined to hit .190/.261/.200. Almost all of Freddy Galvis' offensive production over the last month has come at shortstop or third base, and all of Kevin Frandsen's extra-base hits over that span were as a pinch-hitter or first baseman.
Utley is hitting .272/.339/.475 this season, with 7 HR and 25 RBI. He still leads all Phillies position players with 1.6 WAR despite having missed 28 games.
