phew, i was beginning to wonder if the Beerleaguer staff wasn't just too dejected to post a game thread

This place needed some zoloft after the last post/game.

That is an awful, awful Mets lineup. Yet, for some reason, I'm still expecting they post 12 hits and 7 runs tonight.

I was hoping for a header to bookend the prior Game Chat. Something along the lines of "Perfect opportunity for Lee to regress", perhaps.

While it's certainly appropriate to have a game thread, it's a tragedy to change threads right after GBrett posted a truly classic RAJ quote on Delmon Young's newly-discovered inconsistency.

This deserves -- nay, demands -- a repost:

D. Young played 6 innings in RF today. Per Mandy Housenick of the LV Morning Call:

“He’s running the bases,” Amaro said. “He hasn’t had to run the bases a lot because he hasn’t been getting on all that much."

Well, that’s not good.

“No,” Amaro said. “Sometimes he swings the bat good, sometimes he doesn’t. He’s kind of inconsistent.”

Charlie says they're definitely better than 2-5. Bill Parcells would be to disagree.

Against Lee? Doubtful.

Preacher: I'll bet Lee gives up 2 HR. I'm just hoping they're solo shots.

Some of the Mets hitters including Buck have good numbers against him.

Gee is a mediocrity though and yet another Mets' starter who struggles outside of CitiField. Phils have hit him pretty hard in 3 GS at CBP.

No excuse the Phils can at least put at least 3-4 R agaisnt him tonight. Need a good start from Lee though and that means at least 6 and 3 tonight to have a good chance to win.

It would be nice tonight if Howard actually starts to contribute offensively.

Offensively the Phils haven't been that bad so far but Howard is in one of his funks where he swings early and often generally at crap out of the zone. Nice to see him pop one tonight on a warm night.

Hey, well, at least Delmon's running in the field, right?

Right?

Hilarious.

So, the Phillies send Darrin Ruf to AAA for the express purpose of learning LF -- and for the second night in a row, he is starting at 1st base.

This Gee-Lee pitching matchup is just begging for a Jayson Stark column.

Bench so far is 6-29 (.206) with 1 XBH (Frandsen's double). Surprsingly they are 4-10 so far in PH ABs but that is thanks largely to a 2-3 effort by Frandsen.

He's really the only PH bat on the bench worth anything late in a game right now. Nix is a zero vs LH and a poor PH option. Quintero weaknesses on the scouting report is 'MLB pitching' and Galvis/Carrera are pretty meagre hitters too.

Cliff Lee's about the only thing worth looking forward to on this team right now. Maybe he and Utley.

Nice start.

***“No,” Amaro said. “Sometimes he swings the bat good, sometimes he doesn’t. He’s kind of inconsistent.”***

I guess the 10 years of scouting reports werent enough for Rube, eh?

Its like he didnt realize what he was signing in Young.

Well, no one said our Org was competent.

The Man.

Michael Young showing off his "range".

GE Profile?
Wolf?

Was it dual fuel?

D. Young could come in at this point and hit 30 home runs and people would still bitch.

Cliff is topping out @ 90.5. This is a problem.

I thought Revere wasn't supposed to strike out much. Feel like he's done it quite a bit early on this season.

.233 is a "so-so start average-wise?" What the hell would T-Mac consider crappy?

When he hits 30 HRs and we're still bitching, we'll talk.

That might just be the worst half inning in the 130-year history of the Phillies franchise.

BAP - TMac is the ultimate company man. Wheels is objective and even highly critical of the Phils (on the field) compared to TMac.

bap, now you know why I call him TBag. He's got the voice to be a good broacaster, but not the brains or restraint.

Absolutely the worst hire of the Montgomery era. Period.

Fata: Seriously- you don't think people would still bitch if he possibly did that? You've been around here a while.

Also, why weren't you in the thread today playing cop when people were posting the same tired sh!t over and over?

Very nice double play there. Good job Jimmy!

b_a_p: I don't think the Phillies have any intention of doing anything w/ Ruf. When you give a starting job to Delmon friggin' Young, practically sight unseen, over the guy in your own system, you're clearly not all that into the guy in your own system.

That quote about DYoung goes in the Amaro HOF.

Apparently "he's kind of inconsistent" wasn't in the 2006 scouring report on him.

TTI, the point is, he's extremely unlikely to hit 30 HRs, so who cares? People complain. I complain. You complain ALL THE TIME. Except you complain about other people complaining.

Get over yourself and have some fun on this blog.

Hell, I'm hoping we get 30 HRs from Howard.

Well, the Phils may suck out loud, but at least I got a nice surprise today. I turned on the game on my wifi TV and was all ready to turn on the Mets' broadcast to get away from TBag and Sarge, when the game came on with the Phils' radio broadcast.

It's like a breath of fresh air.

TTI: Since Delmon Young has never hit more than 21 homeruns, I fail to grasp your point. The reason people hate the Delmon Young signing is specifically BECAUSE he sucks as a player. Well, also because he's an anti-semitic a-hole. But mainly because he sucks as a player. Why would the Delmon Young hate continue if he came here & proved that he no longer sucks as a player?

Follow-up to my story from the prior thread:

The 700 Level: Scoreboard between innings asks Phillies "Beyoncé or Rihanna?" Jonathan Papelbon says he doesn't know who they are.

"Scoreboard between innings asks Phillies "Beyoncé or Rihanna?" Jonathan Papelbon says he doesn't know who they are."

Actually, that kind of makes me like him more, not less.

A little high.

GREAT baserunning by Brown to follow that up.

BAP/Fata: You guys can be really fvcking dense sometimes.

Fatalotti- You complain about other people complaining. Seriously dude- don't try to play the martyr on here. Everyone sees your act. You try to play Blog Cop and then do everything you accuse other people of. I have a ton of fun on here and I generally enjoy reading posts by everyone on here not named Jack or GTown Dave but it is always amusing to me that you try to play both sides of the fence.

Nice Ab Dom

Young and Brown with good base running and a nice piece of hitting by Dom Brown.

Howard I out-thinking himself right now at the plate. Usually does early in the season until he locks in.

TTI, now you're complaining about someone else complaining about someone else complaining.

Yeesh!

AAAABerry with PRODUCTION!

mabes !!

The only injection we get from TTI is petty whining about other posters. I don't even bother arguing w/ the guy & he's always taking shots.

Also, Cliff Lee is awesome.

Atta boy. Everybody hits!

TTI, also, I don't know what you mean about "playing both sides of the fence". I agree with people on certain things and disagree with them on other things. Believe me, I've gone toe to toe with GTown and BAP on occasion.

Also, nice hit by Lee.

Truth: You act like the b*tching about Delmon Young is just some sort of random personal potshot. It's because he stinks as a player. Remember how much complaining there was when we signed Juan Pierre? When mid-season came along and he was still hitting .300, nary a negative word about him was ever heard on Beerleaguer. All he received was praise. The same would be true if Delmon Young were to hit 30 homeruns. But color me skeptical about that happening.

we'll need that third run, tbs. Nice AB by Cliff.

Fata: Inception posting. I am perfecting it.

What is not to like about Cliff Lee?

TTI- you know how it goes here. Idiocy is tolerated if it's drenched in negativity.

Cliff is the man.

Rollins needs to make this game safe from Chad Durbin, by depositing one in the seats.

Fata: Inception posting. I am perfecting it.

This reference is much appreciated. Insta-truce for that one.

The only way to make any game safe from Chad Durbin is to DFA Chad Durbin.

six inches outside that pitch. wtf

Damn, Dillon Gee looks like Roy Halladay out there.

Too soon?

too soon :)

I'm very impressed with Rollins' approach at the plate early this season. He's taking very few bad swings right now. It's going to be ugly when reversion to norms sets in.

The Phils love themselves some Dillon Gee. The right opposing pitcher at the right time.

GTown, he's our new John Lannan, now that we, you know, actually own John Lannan.

please let Gee pitch to Howard if it comes to that

BAP: I wasn't saying I thought Young was going to hit 30 home runs. I was saying he could do it and would still be bitched about, because people on here just like to bitch.

Fata: I mean both sides of the fence by saying you criticize people for jumping into discussions and then you do the same thing.

GTown: I post way more things than just speaking about what others post. You bring nothing to the table besides bitching. Which is fine in small doses but it is all you do and it gets old. Sorry that I don't bow at the altar of GTown and get a kick out of your hacky material. I sincerely hope you are not like that in real life.

"Utley's been hotter than Ryan Howard".

Understatement of the century?

This has crossed my mind as well.

Utley HAD to swing at that pitch. If he walks, Ryan Howard fails anyway.

TTI, the insta-truce I established in an earlier post forbids me from responding to your last post.

If Delmon Young joins the Phils and hits 30 HRs I will change my board name to Delmon Young. No way, no how that ever happens, so pointing out hypothetical situations in which Delmob Freaking Young hits 30 HRs is a pointless exercise in inanity.

Cliff Lee is rolling.

Tti: gtown doesn't just bitch, he also copy and pastes lineups from twitter. Bow to the alter.

What's that? A shut-down inning? I must be imagining this game.

Fata: I am done. I have said my piece and can move on now.

A four run lead is a Deceptively Usurpable Run Block, or DURB. Beware the DURB

There we go Howard.

Albert Ross post in 3, 2, 1....

chase shoulda walked. ;)

Michael young---back to back

Had he come to the plate with the bases loaded, he'd be on pace for 180 RBI this year.

Just sayin'

Dillon Gee was the perfect tonic for Ryan Howard.

gee wiz.

Michael Young's opposite field homerun diminishes the awesomeness of Howard's homerun, just on pitch earlier.

Hmph

Michael Young sucks why did we ever sign that scrub

Is Howard allowed to do that? Why doesnt he do that more often?

Jeez...this is like Bazarro Phillies.

I love Dillon Gee.

Fails anyway?

Gee, what a pitcher.

I just typed this:

Dillon Gee was put on this Earth to get shelled by Ryan Howard, so for him to not take advantage is beyond pathetic.

Then he goes yard, ha.

3 Hrs on 5 pitches?

"I wasn't saying I thought Young was going to hit 30 home runs. I was saying he could do it and would still be bitched about, because people on here just like to bitch."

Right. I got that. And it was a silly thing to say. It was silly on multiple levels. It was silly because you're implying that all this b*tching about Delmon Young arises from purely personal animus -- as opposed to views about his baseball abilities. And, frankly, it was silly because, even if the b*tching IS out of personal animus, the guy deserves the personal animus. Personally, I doubt I'd be doing much b*tching if Delmon Young came in & hit 30 homeruns but, if someone else wanted to b*tch about the guy anyhow, it would be perfectly reasonable to do so.

WHAT IS HAPPENING

gee willikers.

Did someone start sacrificing virgins?

We're through the looking glass here, people.
