Baseball's longest streak of consecutive playoff appearances, dating from 2007, could end tonight with a loss in Miami or Cardinals victory in St. Louis. Left-handers
Cliff Lee (3.18, 6-8) and Mark Buehrle (13-13, 3.84) toe the slab beginning tonight at 7:10. The Phils field a line-up of elimination All-Stars, with Michael Martinez getting the start in center field and Ty Wigginton starting over Ryan Howard at first. John Mayberry Jr. slides over to right field. The Phils are hanging by a thread after losing two-of-three to both the Braves and Nationals.

I'm done w/ Mayberry. The 0.75 mo. hot streak isn't worth the 5.25 months of sheer suck.

Way to swing at ball four, RFD! No matter, as I saw the next batter on deck.

I'm with you, GTown.

"Michael Martinez put on some weight!"
Hey, I need to preserve my girlish figure!

Somebody yelled really loudly something along the lines of 'Trying making contact and not swing for the fences you f@cking clown' which actually did get him to take a look up in the crowd.
In case anyone happened to be wondering, the fan in question wasn't yours truly. I wish it had been, though. What a miserable player to have to watch.

I'm almost rooting for Lindblom to throw one of his patented meatballs here, thereby putting the 5 posters on tonight's thread out of our collective misery.

Should be done with the tard in charge Charlie for having Mayberry face a right hand pitcher.

Make it three, G'Town and GBrett. Of Brown and RFD, you can only play one and it's got to be Brown. Otherwise, it's mediocrity city in '13.
You can only have so many so-so players in your starting 8, if you hope to accomplish anything beyond third place in your division; to wit, the 2012 season. RIP, 2012.
I'll say this again and probably even more in the off-season: why wait for 2014 before starting the climb back to contention? Say so long to UC and usher in the Ryno era!
BTW, game over.

Walk-off, baby. I'm the 6th poster, btw. Just joined in the fun.

Stress fractures really don't get worse when you play pro baseball on them?

I do think Lindblom gets a L tonight.

Terrible pitch and pitcher trumped by am even worse batter.

You go, Bomber. No, seriously. Leave. Get the f*ck out. You stink.

After the IBB, I predict two more unintentional walks for a literal walk-off loss by the Phitins'.

There's the ballgame.
What's our record since going to Houston? And in September?

It all sucks, but it's amazing how a totally meaningless baseball game still gets the winning team so excited.

I will chalk that loss up as karma. You don't pinch hit Laynce Nix for Darrin Ruf in a meaningless game at the end of a godawful season.

Well, that settles it..Marlins fat first baseman is better than the Phils. Nice job, Lindy.

Lovely, just lovely. It will be games like this that make this season so memorable. I'm certain, however, that Lee will look back upon his 10-inning gem as the capper of one crappy season.
I'm kind of done with Lindblom. Thank you for your service to our Phillies. CYa. Trade him back to the Left Coast. I don't care where.

Phils are 15-10 in September, to answer that one in this old thread.
Yo, new thread
Posted by: EastFallowfield | Friday, September 28, 2012 at 09:40 PM
15-10 in September. 5-5 since leaving Houston. So we haven't played as well of late but still will end September with a winning record.
I feel like Lindblom has shown some ability and am hopeful he can improve upon it. On the other hand, he may just be one of those sometimes good-sometimes bad pitchers - - mediocre, in other words. Maybe my standards have simply been beaten down by the horrible BP performances we see this year. But I'm willing to give him more time (in 2013) before writing him off.

September: 15-10
HOU Series (Since): 5-5
HOU Series (Inc): 6-8

Good point, bap. All of a sudden, Ruf can't hit a righty pitcher??? Did he hit all of his 38 homers in Reading against lefties.
This is one of a plethora (great word) of reasons I cannot stomach that hillbilly manager. All of a sudden, with an opportunity to give Ruf an at-bat in a meaningless game for everyone but him, he pulls him for a middling Nix. What a duchebag UC is!
Posted by: mainerob | Friday, September 28, 2012 at 09:42 PM
As soon as Charlie pinch hit for Ruf (apparently, he doesn't want to find out if the guy can hit a ROOGY) and I saw Lindblom's first hitter, I turned the game off. And now you know the reason. When their mighty .189 hitter leads off the ninth with a double it's time to run, not walk, away from the computer.
Posted by: aksmith | Friday, September 28, 2012 at 09:51 PM
We are on the same team after all, ak. Good call.
Posted by: mainerob | Friday, September 28, 2012 at 09:54 PM
I am okay with Nix hitting for Ruf. Nix is vet, better against RHP and better fielder. Mayberry needed to stay in CF.
Now bringing in Lindbolm??? Why not DeFratus? I guess Lindbolm counts as a young guy the Phillies need to evaluate as well.
