It says subject to local blackouts, will it be on in our area because it's not on myphl or csn?

How can you tell its Spring Training and not the regular season?

I'm DVRing the game and will watch it tonight instead of watching it live.

Still, baseball is baseball.

From Philly.com
1. Pete Orr 2B
2. Ross Gload DH
3. Raul Ibanez LF
4. Ryan Howard 1B
5. Ben Francisco CF
6. Domonic Brown RF
7. Jeff Larish 3B
8. Brian Schneider C
9. Wilson Valdez SS
Cole Hamels P

7 of the 9 are actually legitimate MLB players. That's not too brutal a lineup sadly.

I'd bet there are MLB teams that would field a worse lineup at some point this season.

Guess this means baseball is here. I'll be watching on MLB.com!

Jesus! Baez's got shelled in the B Game. Not that I'm suprised but DAMN!

5 runs in .2 IP for Baez. He's well on his way to not being with the club this year.

Seriously, the more beatings he takes, the less likely it is that he's on the team. Hope it happens again!

Well, it's early, so Baez has plenty of time to make the club. He's a veteran reliever who, like most relievers, has been inconsistent year to year. I'm sure the Phils hope he puts it together this spring.

Where do you guys find "B game" box scores?

bap: I didn't. All 4 beat guys in my Twitter feed tweeted Baez's line about 5 minutes apart.

CJ: Ah, ok. And then you and others relayed the info. by posting it on Beerleaguer -- thereby making it unnecessary for me to use Twitter.

Yankees playing Star Wars music during their starting lineup announcement, but they're using the wrong music. The Evil Empire should be using the Imperial March, not the Rebel Theme.

I've missed Franzke and LA.

Call Me insensitive, but am I supposed to care about all this Steinbrenner stuff. Didn't we sit through all of this stuff when he died . . . last year.

Only the Yankees. It's only Spring Training, but we're already 15 minutes late.

I forgot a few question marks, but you get the point.

Bartolo Colon? I love spring training.

What the Bleep?! I have comcast & am watching MLB Network & it i just old film No live Phillies baseball.

No runs in the first. Single for Gload and Howard put one to the top of the wall the other way that was caught.

Cole coming to the mound.

I'm not here to bash Howard, really I'm not. But that warning track power reminded me of Mo Vaughn just before his production fell off a cliff.

Iceman: I'd say more Cecil Fielder in his final season.

I have a hard time watching the MLB Network. Where the hell do they find those creepy people for the Golden Corral commercials?

Good first for Cole. Jeter weak groundout. K'd Swisher on a high fastball. Just caught Tex on the toe for a HBP. ARod flew out to deep center.

Benny Frank looks ready to go. Solid line drive in the gap got past Swisher (who should have cut it off), lead to a triple.

Good eye by Brown, worked a walk on a full count. If he can show good discipline, that will help him a lot in securing that RF spot.

Phils take a 1-0 lead as Larish GIDPs, Francisco scores.

Jeff Larish didn't even show any grit or scrappiness in that GIDP.

This feels like a loss.

dirty change up there by King Cole

Yanks tie it up with a Cervaelli shot down the 3rd base line. Double scores Cano who reached on an infield hit (maybe a play Rollins makes, Valdez did not).

Jeff Larish is actively hurting this team. There has to be someone we can swing a trade for at 3rd.

I missed this...

Larish won't be on the team. Valdez will most likely be the backup 3rd baseman, although I'm sure Amaro would love to find a Greg Dobbs type who can play 3rd base in a pinch. Hence, the interest in Michael Morse.

Season=over

(Am I first?)

Phillies practicing not scoring for Cole. A bit of a rough start with that early run, but it's Spring Training. Plenty of time to iron out those kinks and get back into mid-season non-scoring form.

Scoreless inning for the Vanimal. 2-out double for A-Rod, then 3-0 count to Cano who grounded out.

LA and Franzke talking about Werth and his contract. Miss these guys. Radio and laptop and some small projects. Perfect.

He flew out, but Howard did a really nice job of staying on that breaking ball.

Benny Frank on base twice so far. Dom Brown a walk and a K.

Golson flys out to the guy he was traded for JMJ who's now in at CF

Two at bats, but Domonic looks to have struck out on that two strike pitch in his first at bat. The ump is doing the hitters a lot of favors. And he looked off balance striking out in his second at bat. I wonder if it's going to take a while to get used to his know starting hand position.

Double post. Looks like I'm going to need a little more Spring Training to get ready to post.

I'm watching the YES broadcast and one of guys said that mlb.com put together a story quoting phillies players on charlie's speech to the team this spring. he said that charlie challenged chase utley saying "don't you want to win a world series like the rest of us" i'm searching mlb.com now for link if someone find it before me please post it here.

Orr knocks in Valdez w/ a double to right field. Close play at the plate, but Valdez just gets around the tag.

her is the story on charlie's speech

http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20110224&content_id=16727612&notebook_id=16727654&vkey=notebook_phi&c_id=phi

maybe utley was just in front of him when when he got to that part of the speech maybe not.... it's interesting when you consider the "general bodysoreness"

here, whoops

Utz isn't on board unless it's a World F**'n Series.

Mayberry didn't help himself the way he drifted after that "cough cough" triple.

He's making Bennie Fran look like Mickey Mantle.

aksmith: Full count pitch to Dom in his first at bat was inside. I don't think any favor was done.

Feierabend's leg kick reminds me Oswalt's from the left side that is

CK - Looked like it caught the plate to me. Although, a little tough to tell from the camera angle.

I'll say it:

This game's now in the Schlitter.

Schlitter!

What's the score?

In the season they'll call upon Schlitter
In a pinch for a righthanded hitter
No doubt he'll unload
And our guy will implode
And the game will end up in the out-house.

Andy's in mid-season form.

the phils have retaken the lead it's 5-4 in the bot of the 8th. the phils scored 2 runs on a bases loaded bloop hit to LF by Dane S

big mike Z is in now

Phils lead 5-4 after 8.

Bottom of the 9th and it's Jason Grilli to close it out.

I'm not doing a "Jason's my guy" graphic for Girilli.

Grilli makes it interesting with 1st and 3rd one out, but a K and a force out end it.

The Phils are well on their way to 162-0.

Schlitter WP, Wordekemper L, Grilli the SV

the worst pitcher of the day (for either side) get's the win

andy, you going from haiku's to full fledged poetry? didn't know you had that skill set.

how's utley?

Utley will not play Sunday.

Unsurprisingly, the YES announcers misrepresented Charlie's statement. Courtesy of Crossing Broad:

Even keel, everything stays even keel. Going to the World Series is one of the biggest things in the world. We won one, and we've had a chance to win a couple more. But we want to win some more, don't we, Ut? We want to get back and we want to win some more and it's not easy! But you know what, I look around and I know, I see, I see the talent we got sittin' in this room. Can we do it? You damn right.

http://www.crossingbroad.com/2011/02/charlie-manuels-speech-to-the-team.html

It was a "we" based commentary. Not you vs. us. Non-issue.

I was just about to post that, J.Pain. Would anyone ever believe Chase Utley was complacent or unmotivated? Come on!

These comments made me laugh:

Yankees playing Star Wars music during their starting lineup announcement, but they're using the wrong music. The Evil Empire should be using the Imperial March, not the Rebel Theme.

* * *Thanks for the laughs! I missed the game, but it's good to have baseball back! :)

Conshy - There's doubtless much controversy as to whether limericks count as "full-fledged poetry." I have been known to do sonnets for play-off games, though.

Best news for the Phils today: Baez performed to expectations leading to the possibility for an improved bullpen.

Come on Utley, we we want you in the 3.1 months starting August 1st. Get with the program.

not a fan of this tweet except for the last part

http://twitter.com/SI_JonHeyman/status/41585933665050624

pb, I saw that on mlbtr also. My take: BFD.

That's one effin' scout.

Want to know how accurate scouts are:

Adam Eaton - 1st round draft pick
Brian Bullington - 1st rnd
Matt Bush - 1st
Luke Hochevar - 1st

Albert Pujols - 13th round draft pick
Ryan Howard - 6th
Cliff Lee - 4th
Mike Cameron - 18th

Scouts are not always right.

agree awh- especially since only been one season

we know gillies was inj and then had issues of the field

amount maybe felt the pressure of being traded for lee and is back where he belongs in the pen

jc has been actually pretty good

i wouldn't say all hope is lost on them but ask me again after this season and i'll have a better answer for not today on feb 26th

All right jitbags, I am back for 2011. While the rest of you whiny weasals were crying gloom and doom last May/June, I correctly told you to shut your sniveling lily-livered yaps as the Phillies were going to win the East. That they did. I look forward to putting you wallies in your place when you start your bellyaching. As always, show some sac and drink some Jack.

Yeah Kool speak the truth.

That anonymous scout was just playing the odds. Grab any 3 A ball prospects and chances are better than 50-50 that none will ever contribute beyond a cup of coffee.

I'll admit that I don't pay very close attention to Beerleaguer in the off-season, but what was the story with Franzske? I thought I read back in November that he was probably leaving the radio gig.

Glad to hear he is back. He is really good. Would have hated to see them lose him.

Best news of today was Baez's performance. I don't want to see him anywhere near the Phils bullpen in 2011. Give a couple of kids a chance. And if they falter early, give a couple other kids a chance. With this staff, you can afford to to do that.

So, what's the deal with Utley anyway?

Is he hurt or just sitting out for some other reason?

Glad to hear that Franzke's back, but I didn't actually hear him. "Your Phillies Station" here in Reading,830AM,didn't carry it.
Did anyone see A-ROD'S property tax bill on his new 6MM penthouse? $1150./YR. for 10 years!

I feel that Charlie is trying to change his pre-season workout pattern to allow him to see the second half of the season in a new light. But I have guessed wrong in the past.

Franzke was great with L.A. as his foil once again. Phillies are fortunate to have this team.

Not to divert the topic too much but anyone know why Pujols was a 13th Round pick?

Heard he was picked from Community College and did not appear drafted out of high school. Then he spends one season in the minors tearing up A ball with brief stops at A+ and AAA (3games) to rank at 42nd best prospect by BA.

Makes the majors at 21 out of ST, playing 161 games at the 4 corners and is 4th in MVP voting as an obvious ROY winner. Top4 in MVP 9 of last 10 years.

How did all the scouts miss on the best hitter of the past decade?

re: Pujols
The flawed thinking was that he hadn't faced good competition in HS or CC and he didn't have a true positon and lacked a lot of "tools" ie he had little speed, defense or arm. There were, at the time, questions about his age (not my opinion). In addition, there were questions about his signability. Also, the 13 round is late but not that late. There are 50 rounds in mlb.
No excuse. just telling you what was likely on their minds.

"Grab any 3 A ball prospects and chances are better than 50-50 that none will ever contribute beyond a cup of coffee."

The main point being: why trade for three guys who have never seen the light of AA?

Yo, new thread
