“Hard to Believe!” is the game-by-game story of the 2008 Philadelphia Phillies, from the first pitch on Opening Day to the final pitch of the World Series. Each game is captured in analytical detail by Philadelphia Magazine’s 2008 “Best Sportswriter” Jason Weitzel, along with photos, behind-the-scenes access and exclusive interviews by Michael McNesby, making this 370-page compendium a must-own for all fans.
Howard had a bad postseason. So did Utley, Victorino, Ibanez, Ruiz...So have numerous other superstars throughout the years. Barry Bonds was notoriously awful in the playoffs; so was A-Rod.
Ryan Howard is still a stud. Would you rather have Aubrey Huff?
We knew it all along. The Giants were hungry and playing to win, while the Phillies looked like they were playing not to lose. Still, it was a heck of a year. You can't win the world series every year, and I think anybody who puts this season down as a failure doesn't understand baseball.
Here's to hoping Pat the Bat gets another ring. The WS looks like a good matchup between two deserving teams with both talent and hunger. On paper. the Rangers are probably favored, but the games still have to be played on the field.
LET'S GO GIANTS! LET'S GO GIANTS! LET'S GO GIANTS! LET'S GO GIANTS! LET'S GO GIANTS! LET'S GO GIANTS! LET'S GO GIANTS! LET'S GO GIANTS! LET'S GO GIANTS! LET'S GO GIANTS! LET'S GO GIANTS! LET'S GO GIANTS! LET'S GO GIANTS!
100 bucks says that "Charlie Manual" is a bitter Mets fan whose only way to forestall suicide due to his deep, deep disappointment about his team is to pathetically try to harass fans of a winning team.
This does hurt more than the loss to the Yankees, by far.
Also worries me a bit going forward because the team is what it is, other than Werth probably not being here. It's not like there are a couple of holes to fill that coming up with say, a Polanco or someone like that will really put a new look on things. Don't know that the pitchers will pitch significantly better. I don't think extra BP is going to help. Just have to hope (1) the team maintains a tough, chip on the shoulder attitude, (2) there are fewer injuries, and (3) that a couple of the players who had subpar seasons "regress to their mean". Gotta believe they are a better team than they showed in this series.
That said, I appreciate the past season. They had to be as frustrated as anyone at a number of points during the year and had a number of bad breaks, but they never quit. It's been a heckuva ride, and thanks, Phils. Wish the Phans at the stadium had thanked them.
I'll get in at least one more before the thread closes...at least I don't have to listen to Buck and McCarver for another year.

I think the blame will be spread around enough so that Howard will not be singled out once they start playing again.
Howard had a much better series than Schmidt did in 1983 World Series, and Schmidt still ended up getting cheered after that.

I imagine Cliff Lee is nearly as disappointed as we are.

Ways it could have been better:
None, the Phillies lost.

Kind of stunned to be honest.
