After a so-so start, the bottom dropped out for left-hander Jack Taschner in June, who has been dropped from the Phillies' bullpen.
The 31-year-old departs with a 5.20 ERA and 17/20 K/BB ratio. The move signals a small vote of confidence for rookie Sergio Escalona, who stays on as the second lefty in the 'pen. Roster-wise it clears a path for tonight's starter, Rodrigo Lopez. The Phillies also moved Brett Myers to the 60-day DL. Beerleaguer: Once the Phillies returned home, it was only a matter of time for Taschner, who allowed runs in five of his last seven appearances. The fringe lefty wasn't a good pickup by Ruben Amaro Jr. and everyone said so. Everyone. Taschner will struggle to find takers.

Another, more logical, decision would have been to stop carrying 3 catchers. Not that I'll miss Taschner. I thought Taschner had an option left anyway?

The press definitely said that Taschner had an option year left. I guess they were wrong. I'd be shocked if Taschner didn't clear waivers.

MLBTradeRumors has the Braves shopping Vazquez for a bat? Why in the world would they do that?

I'm not sure why they didn't just option to AAA since he had an option left. That said I am glad they kept Escalona, if Eyre retires next year I think he could be the second lefty in the pen. Or maybe Bastardo if he is moved back to being a reliever.
I think the Phillies will keep Bako until Ibanez comes back and then keep Mayberry.

What a waste of a prospect...

Taschner comes across as a good guy on The Pen, and I wish him the best of luck wherever he winds up (including if it's Lehigh Valley). But I think most were skeptical of his acquisition from the beginning, and I can't say I'm surprised that it's ended like this.
