The Beerleaguer proudly predicted the Phils recent streak starting with the St. Louis series, but I never imaged it would be this good. Hopefully all good things don’t necessarily have to come to an end this weekend when they face a good Brewers team.
The Brew Crew have a team ERA of 3.72 on the strength of a solid rotation and good bullpen. They’ve been helped with some good defense as evident in their 4.40 FIP.
A key matchup Saturday sees Chase Utley, now the full-time man at second, against junkball southpaw Doug Davis, representing the kind of pitcher the team often struggles against. I view this game as the first game of the rest of Utley’s career.
The Phils and Brewers represent my preseason picks as the darkhorses in the NL. The Phils find themselves alone in second in the NL East, while the Brewers have hovered around .500 for most of the season, but find themselves 10 games back of NL Central-leading St. Louis. The Brewers are a bad road team, going 11-19 away from Miller Park, while the Phils now have one of the best records at home going 19-11 at CBP.
Tonight it’s Victor Santos (2-5, 2.71 ERA) against a man that needs no introduction, Brett Myers.

Well, Jason, I see you treat your day job with the same respect as I do mine....
You proudly predicted the current win streak. I, on the other hand, had thrown in the towel already. (See my latest post.) I guess we now know who sees the glass as half full.
