Mike Berquist returns with an excellent, much-need statistical survey of Cory Lidle today on A Citizen’s Blog.
Lidle is exactly the type of pitcher that benefits from advanced stats because he's pitched better than his record and strikeout numbers would indicate.
The thing I’ve noticed about Lidle, on the field, is more than any pitcher on staff, he sets up pitches with previous pitches. He strikes me as a very savvy Maddux-esque pitcher, even more than ace Jon Lieber.
Props to Ed Wade on this $3 million bargain.

Since the second half of his first season with the Phils Lidle has quietly produced a much-needed steadying influence among the starting rotation. I agree with your assessment that he seems to have a plan when he takes the mound and, more significantly, seems to stick with it.
